Lobo Unbound

Lobo has had a respectable run. He headlined in a long-running series and numerous one-shots. But dismembering and disemboweling, even tongue-in-cheek dismembering and disemboweling, eventually gets old.

This mini-series takes Lobo to the next level with theoretically “adult” concepts. Whether a character using his giant gonads as a weapon (as in the first issue) makes Lobo suddenly more desirable is a matter of taste.

But #4. Ah, #4. Look who’s here: Ambush Bug. OK, like Lobo, he may be a one-trick pony, but his trick is more interesting and it hasn’t been played out.

Ambush Bug is Giffen’s baby, and he writes AB as well as he ever did. There is, however, some of the same general grossness the series has displayed to date. There may not be as much of it in this issue, but we’ll still refrain from describing what the Moyl Men do with the foreskins they harvest. The more sensitive reader will have to decide whether he’s interested enough in the Bug to risk the so-called “mature” situations.
