The Dark Knight Strikes Again

It’s sometime in the future, and although Batman is presumed dead, he has in fact been busy, training his army of youthful followers and busting old comrades like the Flash and the Atom out of captivity. In a world where heroes have either been forced into retirement or enslaved—with a familiar, evil face calling the shots—Batman’s guerrilla warfare tactics may be the only way to return free will to a fearful, cynical humanity. That path, though, will put Batman and his friends at odds with other old friends, including a beaten Superman and defiant Wonder Woman.

Frank Miller’s mini-series, a sequel—15 years later—to his comic book classic Batman: The Dark Knight, is different in tone, scope, and style to its predecessor, as evidenced by changes like the maturing of sidekick Carrie from “Robin” into “Catgirl.” However, it is just as controversial.
