Captain Video may be of minor interest to comic collectors, but he is a major figure in the archeology of early television, with his own show on the “Dumont Television Network” in the late 40s and early 50s. The good Captain was an “electronic wizard! Master of Time and Space! Guardian of the Safety of the World! Operating from a mountain retreat—with secret agents at all points of the globe!” In other words, part Buck Rogers, part Doc Savage, with a costume that included an old-time football helmet and goggles. Fawcett’s six-issue comic book adaptation included photo covers of Cap and his boy, Ranger, and included book-length multi-part original stories.
