Stranger than Fiction
(Impact Studios, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Josh Roberts
Creators Josh Roberts and Lee Ferguson state in the introduction that their book contains “a distinct lack of gut-wrenching emotionalism, complex plot twists, and sociopolitical agendas…[it’s] a good fun read, nothing more.” It’s true—Stranger than Fiction is pure high adventure.
In a story extremely close in visuals and narrative to Mortal Kombat, we meet the hero Shan Li. He is the only mortal man whose ability as a warrior can defeat the celestial emperor. The emperor is a tyrant who commands both demons and gods like Kuwo-Tai, the spitting image of Kombat’s Raiden who similarly controls the lightning and thunder of the clouds.
This book scores with a low price tag for an independent comic ($1.99), but production values suffer because of it.
