The Nostalgic Mad

™ and © William M. Gaines, Agent

This series presents classic tales from Mad magazine in a color, comic book format. Released in 1973, it reprises Mad antics from some twenty years earlier:

“Hah! Noon” presents a spoof of the movie High Noon, in which Marshall Kane must face Killer Diller Miller in a Western showdown, unless he can successfully sneak out of town like the coward he is. Can anything convince the marshall to stay?

In “Sound Effects,” an entire noir story is told using only ever-present comic book sounds.

In “Ping Pong,” the world must face the fury of the Ookabolaponsa tribe’s giant ape when Cecil B.V.D. Mill, movie producer, brings the gorilla to New York City.

“Bat Boy and Rubin” features the misadventures of a not-so-dynamic duo as they face the Flurgle Gang, made up entirely of women.

Nostalgic Mad also contains portraits of several types of Mad readers, including the female Mad reader and the critical Mad reader.
