Disneyland Birthday Party (Walt Disney’s…)

    (Gladstone, 1985)
™ and ©1985 Walt Disney Co.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Disneyland theme park, Gladstone Publishing reprints this special edition from 1958, the park’s third year. It also marks the beginning of Gladstone’s assumption of the publishing chores for many of Disney’s other titles. This comic is a selection of stories that are told as part of a guided tour of the “Happiest Place on Earth,” with tales selected to highlight the specific attractions of the park, such as Frontierland, the Snow White ride, Adventureland, and the Peter Pan ride.

Disney’s most well-known character, Mickey Mouse, acts as tour guide for Donald Duck’s nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, as well as his own young nephews, Mortie and Ferdie. The stars of the various stories include such popular characters as Goofy, Uncle Scrooge, and Mr. Toad. This edition also features a special cover with a drawing by the definitive “Duck Man,” Carl Barks, superimposed over a photograph of Disneyland.
