As the nearly godlike DoorMan, de Nile escorts his patients through doors in time so that they might face the people and events from their past that cause them suffering in the present. But for DoorMan, it’s more than just about the mental health of those whom he counsels. The emotions inside of those suffering have come to life. They are the Arcanum, dark sentient manifestations of their hosts’ personal psychological torment. As the Arcanum seemingly grows more powerful, DoorMan becomes more driven to stop them. And the only way to do that is by helping his patients face the most painful, embarrassing, and regretful moments from their past.
