The Satanika Illustrations

    (Verotik, 1996)
™ and ©1996 Glenn Danzig

A book of pinups depicting Satanika, the demonic mistress of the dark created by metal rocker Glenn Danzig. A product of the mid-nineties and its trend toward “bad girl” art, The Satanika Illustrations mixes liberal doses of the alluring and the appalling, placing the voluptuous protagonist in a variety of horrific settings that emphasize her innate sexiness. The work possesses a disturbing, rough sexuality that dares the reader to objectify the title character.

Images are provided by several established artists, was well as by up-and-coming talent. Industry great William Michael Kaluta offers a dreamlike piece that emphasizes the mysterious aspects of the character, hinting at a lyricism to the character that one could miss at first glance. Other highlights include an Art Noveau-inspired image by Adam Pollina, as well as manga images by Kazutoshi Yamane and Wingbird.
