Conan the Barbarian was the most successful and long-running sword-and-sorcery comic. Still, by 1994, it had run out of steam. Marvel ended its run with issue #275, but started a number of sequel series immediately afterward.

Conan Classic is one of the best of the second-round series for the simple reason that it consists entirely of reprints from the early issues of Conan the Barbarian. Those issues featured the writing of Roy Thomas and art by Barry Smith (later known as Barry Windsor-Smith). Those early issues had a freshness and imagination about them, as well as a certain savage edge which showed why Robert E. Howard’s Conan was unique among sword-wielding fantasy barbarians.
