Mr. Doom

    (Pied Piper, 1987)
™ and ©1987 Paul Curtis and Garry Hardman

Originally, Paul Curtis created Mr. Doom in 1976. However, the character was not introduced to the public until 1979 during a weekly radio drama program. The radio program was dead serious, straightforward and short-lived. Then Mr. Doom appeared as a serial in Comics Buyer’s Guide in 1982.

In this format, the story continues from the last episode of the radio series when Mr. Doom left town and traveled to Tibet in 1979. He left his friends, snitches and acquaintances without anyone knowing his plans. The intent was to return Doom the next year, with the premise that he’d been away for seven years and starting operations again in a different city—Necropolis. The overall tone is lighter compared to the radio program and it is much closer to the 1980 series of unreleased scripts.

Unfortunately, this character can best described as a poor man’s version of the Shadow without the style or the penchant for discharging pistols.
