This gorgeous limited series from writer-artist Dean Motter (Mister X, Terminal City) explores the world of 1999 as it may have been imagined in 1939; the landscape echoes Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” and is dotted with flying Zeppelins and other German film-inspired structures. This retro-futuristic setting provides the backdrop for a good, old-fashioned, film noir-type murder mystery that finds a robot detective named Mento Park and his partner, the beautiful and spunky Anesta Robbins, knee-deep in trouble. Motter’s tale mines somewhat familiar territory, picking up in a sense where the two Terminal City mini-series left off, but there’s nothing stale here; Motter’s as fresh as ever.
