This black-and-white anthology from Utah-based Newcomers Publishing is dead earnest in its desire to provide a forum for up-and-coming comics talent. Although most of the stories are a tad rough around the edges, that fact actually gives the series a certain charm and appeal. But there’s a lot to admire here, including contributions from John Malloy (Chelsea Mascott) who manages to blend dark, arcane plot elements with squeaky-clean manga-styled art. The overall effect isn’t as jarring as it sounds. In fact, it’s more than a little fascinating.
