Not long ago, a strange bolt of energy hit a cable car, causing the riders (known later as the Strangers) to gain super-powers. It also caused the cable car to crash into a sports car, an accident which buried a hunk of steel in the driver’s head. That driver was Johnny Domingo, a noted jazz musician, and now, apparently, a dead man.

Shockingly, Johnny “got better.” Although the metal was still buried in his skull, his brain somehow worked around it, leaving no ill-effects other than a permanent dilation of his pupils. On the bright side, Johnny found he no longer needed to sleep…and one other thing: he could now hear the thoughts of evil people. As ultra powers go, Johnny had a strange one, but he was determined to use it for good. He became the Night Man, vigilant protector of innocents who watched over the city while others sleep. And as a denizen of the night, he takes on some of the darkest, most ghoulish villains in the Malibu Ultraverse.
