Touch

An interesting take on the “powers for payment” subgenre, Touch introduces the firm of Supernova Solutions, an organization that offers super-human services for a fee. Run by a greedy businessman named Cooper Santiago, the company faces touchy times, when the resident hero for hire, Rory Goodman, trashes one too many bars. Goodman, who is, at heart, a Good Man, grieves for his deceased wife, making him prone to fits of rage, especially when provoked.

Though the script is solid for the most part and includes a couple of surprises, it does contain a disappointment or two. Goodman, the story’s focal point, appears to be written out of the series by the end of the issue, leaving the unlikable (though believable) Santiago as the main player. Also uneven is the art, which, again, is solid for the most part but weak in one key area: faces.

All in all, Touch is a good fit for DC’s Focus line, which aims for a more realistic take on super-powered beings. Hopefully, subsequent issues will be a bit more focused.
