Powers by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming is a sophisticated melding of the super-hero and crime/detective comics. The cases that Detective Walker and his partner Deana Pilgrim encounter usually involve super-heroes, but also grisly murders and sexual situations. Accordingly, it is a title that is targeted at a mature reader.

Coloring and activity books are largely the purview of pre-pubescent children. The complete contradiction a Powers-inspired coloring book is a large part of the parody. If the mere existence of the this book didn’t indicate the obvious intention, then safety tips that advise children to “never touch anything in my house that has ‘Nullifier’ written on it” should be sufficient.

Oeming’s animation-style artwork readily lends itself to this kind of farce.
