In 1932, a Collarian colony ship crashed next to Lincoln City. Most survived. Seventeen years later, the world of 1942 is a very different place. Collarian technology has been used by humans to create all sorts of advanced technology, everything from electric moving signs to anti-grav units built into every car. The site of the crash has turned into a super-city called Technopolis but is being attacked by anti-Collarian insurgents almost weekly. Many people still hold resentment toward the aliens because some of them supplied the Nazis with battle drone construction information.

At the Mercury News Chronicle’s city office, ace reporter Madison James is getting stories published exactly as the local crime bosses are telling him to. But one day, something remarkable happens. James meets Collarian ambassador Vienna Darlington, a plucky human girl who strongly supports the Collarian theocracy and is next on the list of people to be killed. But can either of them handle a human/Collarian alliance that’s hiding more than even Madison James would have thought possible?

An exciting combination of 1930s adventure with a science fiction twist, this mini-series is great reading.
