Kobalt

One of the later major additions to the Milestone universe, Kobalt is a grim ’n’ gritty bruiser who looks like the bad guy in a pro wrestling match. The fun of this series, however, rests with his sidekick, Ricky Page. Page is the living embodiment of the “before” model in those Charles Atlas ads. He’s a little kid, constantly victimized by the bullies at school. All the while, he dreams of becoming a super-hero, taking his inspiration from the pages of “Cape and Cowl” magazine.

As luck would have it, Kobalt owes Ricky’s dad a favor, and against his wishes, Kobalt takes the kid in and shows him the ropes. The tension between the two provides the series’ best moments, although there’s plenty of standard beat-up-the-bad-guys action as well.
