The Human Race

While not the most original concept for a story you’ll ever read, it is one that just about everyone will relate to in some sense—and sometimes that alone is enough to make a comic work. This is a story about coming of age and not fitting in: something that almost every reader of comics knows something about.

Super-smart Ulysses wakes up on the morning of his high-school graduation a changed person. But, unlike the changes most high-school graduates face (like moving away to college or going into the full-time work force), Ulysses has transformed into a hyper-evolved being and he’s scared to death. On the run, he becomes the target for two different groups. As they clash, he has to decide whether to trust the ancient secret society that has promised to help him regain his humanity and save the human race from the evil being that will kill to get to him.

While the story is compelling, the highlight of this issue is Justiniano’s hyper-detailed art that makes the Giger-esque characters come to life.
