Warren Ellis introduces readers to the setting in which this story takes place: our universe 100 years in the future, where interplanetary travel is an everyday occurrence, yet books are an unknown entity. But, other than the cool technology, not much else is fleshed out. The main character, a U.N. Special Weapons Inspector, is traveling to Europa, the all–ocean moon of Jupiter, where he is to investigate the sudden appearance of coffins filled with dead bodies that begin to rise from the ocean. This should make for an exciting mystery, but readers have to wait until next issue for it to be explored. This issue highlights his trip from Earth to the moon to Deimos, then to Europa, while not concentrating at all on the focus of this series: the coffins. The series shows promise. The art by Chris Sprouse is outstanding. But, over all, it is taking far too long to get to the crux of the story; for an introductory issue, that shouldn’t be the case.
