Muktuk Wolfsbreath: Hard-Boiled Shaman
(Vertigo, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Terry LaBan
Muktuk Wolfsbreath is something of a detective, but not the traditional sort. He’s a Siberian shaman, a tribal magician who communicates with animals, with nature, and with spirits. In this three-issue Vertigo mini-series, Wolfsbreath gets caught up in investigating the death of a fifteen-year-old boy. The story that’s being told is that he was killed by a tiger, but a “cannibal demon” is terrorizing a tribal village and Muktuk feels that the death of the boy and the arrival of the demon are connected. Will the mystery be resolved before more innocent lives are lost? Will Muktuk survive the investigation? Only time—and friendly spirits—will tell. Of course, the talented creative team of Terry LaBan and Steve Parkhouse may have some say in the matter, too.
