Emil Castanza was an evil man, whose life’s ambition was to find the fabled “Scroll of Sorrows.” Once the secrets written in it were deciphered, Castanza would wield unlimited power—or so he thought.

His ruthless quest for the scroll led him to South America, where he murdered one of his colleagues on an archaeological dig in order to claim the scroll for himself alone. Upon returning to the university, he poisoned or shot all rivals to the scroll’s secrets. But in order to use the scroll, he first needed the help of an ancient text. This search would lead him into war-torn Bosnia, where he would kill again before finding the book—and being given a talisman by a strange undead guardian.

Now, his power was almost complete. All that remained was to free a dead goddess from her grave, and unleash a new era of horror upon the earth.
