Faro Korbit
(AP, 2003-2004)
™ and © AP
Faro Korbit is essentially writer Mike Baron’s version of Marvel’s Dr. Strange. Unable to get the rights to use Dr. Strange himself, Baron developed Korbit with co–creator Mel Rubi. Korbit is a 4,000 years old former Pharaoh, and like Dr. Strange, is skilled in the mystic arts. His mission is to prevent an evil race called the Great Old Ones from coming back to Earth. Inspired by the supernatural pulp fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and Dr. Strange, Faro Korbit combines super–heroics with old–fashioned wizardry. The influence of Dr. Strange is unmistakable, but Korbit is born in a more violent era in comics as he slashes foes with a sword and rips out their hearts.
