Hero@Large
(Speakeasy, 2005)
™ and ©2005 Speakeasy Comics
Welcome to Megalotropolis, where the super-heroes wage a never-ending war against the forces of evil, and, of course, compete for the number-one spot on the nightly news!
Utilizing plenty of humor, this comic focuses on the mundane aspects of being a hero, especially in a media-driven world with the collective attention span of a toddler.
First up is Alpha Major, who loses everything from his agent to his team when a younger, hipper hero steals the spotlight. He hits rock bottom (we’re all only one paycheck away from the gutter, after all) before a young boy reminds him of what it really means to be a hero.
Subsequent stories feature the adolescent Hero Scouts, who tackle the thankless and dangerously silly jobs the adult heroes won’t touch, and Super-Amazing Man, whose greatest challenge is the bureaucratic red tape of the Department of Super-Human Registration.
