Savage Tales (2nd Series)

Although several of its issues listed it as “Volume 1,” this was actually the second magazine-sized series of Marvel’s Savage Tales. (The first is notable as the original home of Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja.)

This second series features action stories for adult audiences. The stories tended to fall into the war genre (with some exceptions), but took a darker, more introspective approach than the mainline war comics. This made Savage Tales the perfect birthplace for The ’Nam, which used a similar approach to become one of Marvel’s most popular war comics.
