Vampirella/Shi

Vampirella, one of the original “bad girls” of comics, was on a mission to kill an Asian vampire couple who were feasting on innocents in New York’s Central Park. When she discovered the female vampire beheaded and buried according to Oriental rituals, Vampirella realized there was a complication. She tracked the remaining vampire to his uptown apartment where she encountered beaten and dying bodyguards, Yakuza thugs and…the complication: Ana Ishikawa, known as Shi, the stylish, reluctant assassin created by Bill Tucci.

Despite certain physical similarities, Vampirella and Shi are rather divergent characters. Vampirella’s appeal historically has been her sexy appearance, while characterization and absorbing scripts (as well as a sexy appearance) exemplify Shi. This book was the Harris Comics rendition of the meeting between two of comics’ foremost female personalities. Shi/Vampirella, giving top billing to Shi, was the Crusade version.
