Air War Stories

Since DC Comics cornered the market on war comics for most of the time that they were popular, it’s easy to forget that many other publishers had war titles that were often on par—and occasionally superior to—anything DC had to offer. Case in point is this Dell title, an anthology focusing on combat in the skies. During its run in the 1960s, Air War Stories delivered excitement and moral tales (often with a twist) set throughout the history of air war from World War I to the Cold War era in which it was published. The series is notable for the regular contributions of artist Sam Glanzman (G.I. Combat, Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo), best known for his later work on DC’s “Haunted Tank” strip.
