Garth Ennis has a knack for being able to draw in readers and he does it again here. This first issue lays out his direction for the ongoing story by introducing two angels on Earth and their scheme to rescue Ghost Rider from hell and use him as part of their master plan. Along the way, Ennis also retells the origin of Johnny Blaze, the original Ghost Rider, and introduces readers to two new, not-so-nice characters. This is a great introduction to the new tale; as always, Ennis hits the mark and leaves readers eager for the next issue.

While the story is compelling, the art is even more so. Clayton Crain is definitely here to stay. His painted, videogame-quality art allows the Ghost Rider to jump off the printed page. There’s enough realism and detail in each panel to make reading of this issue take much longer than one would expect. The only question remaining is his ability to continue this quality on a regular schedule.
