Greymatter

    (Alaffinity, 1993-1996)
™ and ©1993 Adam and Marcus Harwell

Greymatter takes place on planet #109-79, an artificial world about half the size of our moon. The planet is fought over by two races: the primitive Fulhufa, and the more advanced peoples descended from Earth’s humans (transplanted to planet #109-79). In the midst of this conflict lies the Tower, a huge city a mile wide and several miles tall.

The creators of Greymatter envision it as a “limited series of more than 90 issues, but less than 110,” much like the three hundred issues planned for Dave Sim’s Cerebus. The creative team of cousins Adam and Marcus Harwell are off to a credible start. Their world is peopled with a variety of weird and interesting inhabitants, freely mixing human and cartoon-looking characters in the story. The detailed penciling style that the Harwells employ makes the combination look both realistic and slightly surreal. This should be an interesting series to watch as it develops.
