Unlike other super-heroes, the various people who have wielded the awesome power of Green Lantern are not solo adventurers. They are actually intergalactic policemen, assigned to their own “beats” (Hal Jordan’s was sector 2814: the area around Earth). At the same time, they are part of a larger force known as the Green Lantern Corps. The Corps was set up by the advanced race from the planet Oa, and is responsible for maintaining order throughout the universe. When extraordinary danger threatens, however, the Corps members may be called to handle it together.

This series was continued from Green Lantern (2nd Series) #204. It marked a shift in focus away from the solo Green Lantern heroes (notably Hal Jordan) and toward a cast of less distinguished Green Lanterns such as Guy Gardner and John Stewart who operated in tandem. The series later concluded with issue #224.
