Jonah Hex: Riders of the Worm and Such
(Vertigo, 1995)
™ and ©1995 DC Comics, Inc.
Written by Joe Lansdale (Dead in the West) and featuring art by Timothy Truman, this five-issue mini-series is another trip into the dark side of the Old West. Much like Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo, Riders of the Worm and Such combines Western adventure with the eerie and bizarre.
It all begins as Jonah Hex, the legendary bounty hunter, has a bounty on his own head. Cornered in a barn with gunmen all around, he somehow manages to fight his way free and escape—but not without taking a bullet in the chest. He rode for miles before unconsciousness claimed him. Luckily, he was found by Rudy, a kindly traveler who took him in and bandaged his wounds. But late that night, something began moving in the ground under the cabin where Jonah was staying. Suddenly, huge tentacles sprung out of the ground, strangling the horses and ripping Rudy in half. For Jonah, weak and bleeding from his previous encounter, the real nightmare had just begun
