A strange meteor streaked from the far reaches of space and crashed down in New Jersey. Time was of the essence, so the military asked Dr. Will Magnus to send in the Metal Men to retrieve it. These heroes were Magnus’ greatest creation: living beings composed of various metals. The one called Iron, for example, had super-strength. Lead was also strong and could act as a radiation shield. The other Metal Men: Gold, Platinum, Tin, and Mercury, also had special abilities based on their respective metals.

The Metal Men managed to retrieve the meteor and bring it back to their base. Shortly afterward, Magnus was contacted by one Dr. Peter Tonegawa, who sought to license the technology which created the Metal Men. When Magnus refused, Tonegawa sent a giant robot to steal them, along with the meteor. Crashing through the complex, the robot also succeeded in revealing Magnus’ greatest secret: the real, human bodies of the Metal Men.
