Destination Moon

Though considered extremely campy and ancient by today’s standards, this movie was the first to seriously deal with the reality of space travel in a semi-serious fashion. George Pal of Puppetoons fame, wanted to branch out from these animated shorts featuring stop motion puppets into the world of feature films, particularly those in the science fiction and fantasy genres. He played it safe with his first feature The Great Rupert, which was a hybrid of Puppetoons and live-action before going full-blown live-action with this intriguing story about man’s first flight to the moon and the complications they encounter.
