This adaptation of Charles Sheldon’s 1896 inspirational novel explores the true meaning of being a Christian. After the death of a transient he’d previously rebuffed prompts a minister to reconsider his faith and moral convictions, he undertakes a solemn pledge. Predictably, all but a few of his parishioners consider his goal foolhardy and unachievable: for one year, all who join him will attempt to live their lives in imitation of Christ. All their actions and decisions, regardless of the consequences, must reflect how they believe Jesus would act in the same situation.

At first, most in the pact suffer many hardships, enduring ridicule from friends and family, loss of employment, and even personal injury. But those that remain true to their pledge eventually gain from the experience, discovering new friendships and loves, inner strengths they didn’t know they possessed, and the joy that comes from helping others in need.
