In the wake of Rob Liefeld’s exodus from Image, all the characters and books from his Maximum Press/Extreme Studios wound up under the Awesome Entertainment banner in 1997. This provided the perfect excuse to get writer Alan Moore to delineate the universe’s history in this three-issue series.

When Riptide is killed in her room, the members of Youngblood accuse Knightsabre, who was in her room at the time, of the murder. Judgment Day relates the trial of Knightsabre, which provides the framing device for flashbacks to events in the past. The flashbacks introduce new characters, each based on a particular comics genre, such as Zantar the jungle-hero, and Battlin’ Baron, the WWII hero. A different artist draws each flashback in a style appropriate to the genre. The concepts and history in this series were used as a springboard for changes throughout the Awesome Entertainment line.
