Barnyard Comics
(Animated, 1944-1950)
™ and ©1949 Animated Cartoons, Inc.
If Barney Rooster, Snooze the dog, Hucky Duck, Professor Bacon, Robin Hood Robin, and Francois Feline aren’t the household names that some of the other funny animals of the comics and movies have become, it isn’t for lack of wacky mishaps, goofy humor, and zany merriment produced in the pages of their series, Barnyard Comics, during the 1940s.
Issues featured each of the characters in their own eight-page adventure, often with a guest appearance from one or more of the others. Readers could enjoy a couple of text stories between comics sections as well. Some of the spot illustrations for these stories were provided by a very young Frank Frazetta, who went on to become a hugely successful fantasy illustrator and painter. Barnyard Comics was also specifically cited as an influence by underground comics pioneer Robert Crumb.
