Though the TV show had a somewhat lackluster premise—the idea of a man who owned a horse who only spoke to him—the show actually had quite a few laughs and surprisingly, also featured one of the most memorable TV theme songs. Alan Young, who later went on to voice Uncle Scrooge on TV’s DuckTales, played the long-suffering Wilbur, the only man Ed would speak to. The concept wasn’t completely original, as a series of feature films were made in the decade preceding, starring Frances, the Talking Mule, who also got his own comic book series.
