Daft super-hero comic featuring the explosives-obsessed researcher Cary August and his gung-ho crime-fighting alter ego. A particularly ridiculous creation is the crime organization Apple, permitting all kinds of ludicrous gadgetry and strained metaphors, and there’s a full cast of equally stupid villains. Anyone who’s read more than a dozen Marvel comics will get most of the jokes, but Mortar Man is just off-center enough to appeal to Flaming Carrot fans. This is particularly the case with the Burdenesque backup strip concerning the misdeeds of the Questionnaire of Crime.
