Secrets of Drawing Comics (Rich Buckler’s…)
(Express, 1986)
™ and © 1986 by Rich Buckler
Do you know what the imaginary 180° line is, and why you should never cross it? Rich Buckler does and he explains it all for any aspiring comic artists in this enlightening series. This book is not a “How To Draw” manual. You’ll need to look elsewhere for that. Rather, Buckler illustrates the many options and techniques a comic artist has to be aware of to render scenes interestingly and dynamically.
The introduction by Stan Lee, who authored a similar book with John Buscema, (“How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way”), explains that a comic artist is more than a good illustrator and makes several comparisons to the film industry. He or she must be a director, cinematographer, film editor and even actor. Rich Buckler then proceeds to demonstrate exactly why all those skills are necessary to make a comic something other than just a story with pictures.
