Wolverine: Doombringer
(Marvel, 1997)
™ and ©1997 Marvel Characters, Inc.
An otherwise by-the-book Wolverine episode begins with an interesting premise. A thousand years ago, in the temple-fortress of Tangkor Marat, two different sects of priests were in the midst of a pitched battle. In the southern temple, mystics determined to bring about the next age were summoning the Doombringer: a demonic being from another dimension who would end the world. In the northern temple, another group of mystics were casting a spell to stop time—the only way they could stop the coming of the Doombringer. When the Doombringer was partially into this plane, the northern mystics succeeded and everything stopped. Arrows were frozen in midair, and men who were fatally wounded did not have time to fall to the ground. All was still until an earthquake disrupted the spell. A lone warrior fell away from the frozen battle and carried the tale to Mariko—head of Clan Yashida and Wolverine’s longtime love. Fearing the worst, she asked Wolverine, along with the Silver Samurai, to stop the end of the world.
