Fat Boy and Harvey
(Axiom, 2005)
™ and ©2005 Howard M. Shum
Harvey wants to make it big as an illustrator, but so far he’s just got a comic strip in a Los Angeles free weekly. When he and his kung-fu practicing cousin Fat Boy get offered gigs as bodyguards at a charity concert, Harvey jumps at the chance to meet Fred Durst, lead singer for rock band Limp Bizkit. Scurrilous antics ensue backstage when the obnoxious Harvey gets himself in hot water with the talent. This 24-page black and white satire leverages contemporary racial and sexual anxieties to make fun of celebrities. However, the best laughs come from Fat Boy whose dialog recalls poorly translated Hong Kong action films.
