Wild Times: DV8

    (WildStorm, 1999)
™ and © 1999 WildStorm Productions and DC Comics

In a multi-title WildStorm Productions event, Wild Times takes five of the publisher’s most popular titles and drops them into pivotal points in American history (the Wild West, World War II, Prohibition, the Cold War and the 1960s), retelling their origins to fit accordingly. Think of it as a “What if this character or group had lived in this particular era” type story.

Receiving the treatment this time around is the popular team of DV8. In this alternate reality, team leader Matthew Callahan is a World War II lieutenant sentenced to death for cowardice in the face of the enemy, desertion and dereliction of duty. In exchange for his life, Callahan volunteers to take part in a Russian experiment to create “super soldiers.”” While undergoing the treatments, he meets up with others who “volunteer” for the same experiment—namely private Leon Carver and Corporal Hector Morales. Having successfully survived the treatments, the team leads the invasion on Omaha Beach in what can best be described as a super-hero version of Saving Private Ryan.
