Suspira: The Great Working

    (Chaos, 1997)
™ and ©1997 Chaos! Comics

The first fully painted series from Chaos! Comics, Suspira, tells the tale of a witch named Felicia Chavez who fights the darkness within her to be an agent of light and goodness. Her nemesis is Epitaph, a herald of Lady Death who has victimized many innocent women and Suspira knows that it is her mission to destroy him. This limited series by Philip Nutman is beautifully painted by Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award winner Mike Okamoto and draws inspiration from the mythology of the Mexican people. Like Lady Death, who makes an appearance in this series, Suspira’s, er, physical charms are somewhat gratuitous, but the story is more than worthwhile.
