Published in 1987, Suburban High Life is an anthology series comprised of weird pseudo-nostalgia pieces, marrying the clean-cut image of the 1950s with smiling bits of the bizarre.

“Weird Wild Party” takes happy, photo-inspired images of 1950s social life and uses them to paint a picture of a strange orgy with kinky overtones. At the end, the narrator expresses his displeasure, in a deadpan way, at having been given the invitation. Other strips use a similar deadpan tone to simultaneously praise the local Benihana-type restaurant with its theatrical chef preparing dinner at the table—while at the same time noting that “a little slip” caused the chef to mistakenly hurl knives at three of the dinner guests, killing them. But with extra-large doggie bags and a free meal, the narrator still gave the restaurant an enthusiastic “four stars!”
