Promethea Covers Special

You may not be aware of this, but ABC’s Promethea is as gorgeous a book as it is an intriguing one: our heroine is the archetype of female power and beauty who has inspired writers and artists for centuries, and one of those artists is series regular J.H. Williams III (Seven Soldiers). The covers here are inspired by sources as diverse as World War II-era war bonds posters, Depression-era pulp magazine covers, 1950s romance comics artwork, Terry Gilliam’s animation, stained-glass windows, 1960s album covers, Rembrandt paintings, and, heck, Superman Vs. The Amazing Spider-Man. This is a nice collection, but it certainly deserves to be an over-sized hardcover, rather than a 32-page pamphlet.
