In centuries past, a young samurai pledged his life in service to his master, Lord Ozaki. Ozaki was the wielder of the Bloodsword, a mystical blade stolen from the demon Agat. When Ozaki was killed by that selfsame demon, the young ronin (a samurai with no master) sought vengeance on the demon. The Bloodsword had the power to slay Agat only if it had been used to slay an innocent—so to complete his quest, the ronin plunged the blade through his own heart, spearing the demon as well. But as he died, the demon uttered one final curse…
Now, the bio-engineered Aquarius Complex sprawls over the ruins of New York City. Within, an armless kid named Billy melds cybernetically with a living computer named Virgo. As Billy dreams strange dreams about an ancient ronin, the complex is invaded by a monstrous, unstoppable terror. In a final moment of realization, Billy realizes that he is part of an old conflict which had never truly ended.
