Two Gun Western
(Marvel, 1950-1952)
™ and ©1951 Medalion Publishing Corp.
Two-Gun Western from the early 1950s is the first of two series by that name from Atlas (pre-Marvel), neither of which featured the popular Atlas character, Two-Gun Kid (he had his own book). Confused yet? The star of Two-Gun Western was Kid Colt, Outlaw, later to anchor his own series. It also introduced several other continuing western characters, the Apache Kid (featuring very early art by future Marvel bullpen stalwart John Buscema) and the Black Rider. The issues of the early fifties series are distinguished by covers and artwork by the great Joe Maneely, whose gritty but ornate style redeemed the trite cowboys-and-Indians, cattle rustler and evil land-baron plots that were tired even then.
