Happy Birthday Martha Washington

    (Dark Horse, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons

Continuing the title character’s adventures from Give Me Liberty and Martha Washington Goes to War, this one-shot from Dark Horse contains three short stories.

In “Collateral Damage,” Martha saves the life of a certain hardboiled tax collector during a siege on Manhattan, and learns the true nature of war. “State of the Art” finds her in the Louisiana swamps in untested battle armor, facing off against a soldier of the First Sex Confederacy in the Second Civil War. “Insubordination” sends Martha to Philadelphia to recover the last extant sample of a super soldier serum from the blood of its inventor and most famous test subject, Captain Kurtz. A veteran of every war since World War II, Kurtz disobeyed orders to save the Liberty Bell from the neo-Nazis controlling the city. Now Martha must decide just what Kurtz’s legacy will be.
