Welcome to the Inbetween: The Story of LIttle Apple Dolls
(IDW, 2005)
™ and © 2005 Ufuoma Urie
If you’ve recently stood in a doorway or experienced the moment when yesterday becomes tomorrow, then you might have glimpsed the Inbetween. Kook Headcage, a storyteller with an unknown day job, welcomes visitors to the strange realm of the Inbetween, and introduces the first three Little Apple Doll characters: Sine, Umbrae and Circe. Little Apple Dolls were originally conceived as child-sized sculptures that explored myths of life and death, but eventually took on a story of their own. British-born author, Ufuoma Urie’s stark narrative style is juxtaposed with strange and colorful drawings that are simultaneously reminiscent of fairytales and religious texts.
