Batman and Other DC Classics

    (DC, 1989)
™ and ©1989 DC Comics

DC issued this free sampler to highlight some of their prouder accomplishments and to encourage more readers to become comic book collectors. The range of material included here is somewhat unusual for a sampler issue, covering older comics as well as new titles.

This title starts off with a bang, reprinting Batman’s origin story from 1948’s Batman #47. In that story, Batman gets his revenge on Joe Chill, the thug who killed his parents when Bruce Wayne was just a boy. Next is a sample from Camelot 3000, a respected twelve-issue maxi-series that placed reincarnated Knights of the Round Table in the far future. Following those two classics were two more contemporary features: Justice League: A New Beginning, which told of the making of the new Justice League; and The New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, the last appearance of Dick Grayson as Robin.
