From the Publisher:
After his collaborations in the 1960s with Stan Lee that created the Marvel Universe, Jack Kirby moved to DC Comics where he immediately set to work creating yet another universe. The New Gods—and its related titles—was a pure Kirby tour de force, bursting with so many new concepts that they are still being mined today. His fertile imagination unsated, while doing these titles Kirby also created two more titles for DC: The Demon and Kamandi—although they did not go on sale until after New Gods was cancelled. Of all the titles Kirby created for DC, Kamandi had by far the longest run—59 issues (although Kirby did leave the title a couple of years befoer its final issue).
While the “last man on earth” theme was far from new, it was one that Kirby put his own “bigger than life” stamp upon—an iconic character facing a widly hostile world. His take on it was perhaps best summed up in Jack’s cover blurb for issue no. 1, “Beasts who act like men! Men who act like beasts! See the world of Kamandi, the last boy on Earth!”
